Pune Crime News | Fed up with torture by stepmother, young woman jumps off moving train, dies

Pune : Pune Crime News | A 17-year-old girl died after jumping off a moving train as she was fed up with the torture by her stepmother. Eventually, her mother died 10 years ago after receiving severe burns from a stove.

The victim has been identified as Ashwini Namdev Chavan, a resident of Yerwada. The police have booked her parents, Namdev Chavan and Lakshmi Chavan, both residents of Yerwada.

The victim’s maternal uncle Shankar Gegya Rathod (42), a resident of Dhanori, lodged a complaint at the Yerwada Police Station.

According to the police, the complainant’s sister Seema got married to Namdev Chavan in 2005. They have three children Raj, Sachin and Ashwini (the victim). In 2013, Seema died in the reported accident. In fact, it was learnt that she had ended life due to the torture by her husband. Later, Namdev married Lakshmi within six months on the pretext that his children needed a mother to look after. Lakshmi would beat up the three children, ask them to do household chores, would not serve them meals and force them to earn money as child labour.

She told Raj to leave school three years ago and to work in a grocery shop. He runs the family. Later, Ashwini was forced to leave school in 2022 and forced to work as a nanny in Wadgaon Sheri. She used to stay with the family in Wadgaon Sheri. Namdev used to take the entire salary from her every month. Ashwini left the work in April. Her stepmother got upset and started torturing her more. Ashwini narrated this to her maternal uncle.

Her uncle bought her new clothes to attend the marriage of her stepmother’s sister. Ashwini was returning home from the ceremony in Gulbarga in the Mumbai LTT Super Fast Express on June 3. Ashwini jumped off the moving train after it left the Daund railway station near Patas. The Daund Police registered a case and transferred it to the Yerwada Police.
