Pune: A 63-year-old resident of Shivajinagar was duped into paying Rs 8,64,000 by falsely promising his elder son a job in the water supply department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The accused took the money from the person and cheated him by swindling his money. This incident took place between May 2021 and March 2023 at Patil Estate in the Shivajinagar area.

In this regard, Dilip Ganpat Khilare (63), a resident of Patil Estate, Shivajinagar, Pune, filed a police complaint at Khadki Police Station. Khilare complained that the accused, Machhindra Bhimrao Dhotre (45), a resident of Wanwadi, Pune, posed himself as a contractor in the PMC and told the plaintiff that he was acquainted with many senior officials in the PMC.

The accused falsely promised the plaintiff to give his elder son a job in PMC’s water supply department as a fitter, and for that, he took Rs 8,64,000 from Khilare in cash and check forms. However, to Khilare’s surprise, after getting the money, Dhotre did not give Khilare’s son a job as per his earlier promise.

Furthermore, when the plaintiff asked for his money back, the accused refused to pay him and defrauded him. After this, the accused rushed to Kharadi police station and filed a police complaint against the accused.

Acting promptly, Khadki police booked the accused, Machhindra Dhotre, under IPC 406 and 420 and initiated further investigation into the case.
