Mundhwa Police Apprehend Two Smugglers, Seize 1140 Litres of Illegal Liquor Worth Rs. 3.25 Lakh

Pune: In a swift operation conducted by the Mundhwa police, two individuals were apprehended after attempting to evade law enforcement while smuggling illegal country-made liquor. The incident unfolded on Friday, the 22nd of January, around 4 a.m. at Z Corner in the Mundhwa area. The culprits were caught red-handed with a significant quantity of contraband, including a Mahindra company pick-up truck and 38 cans containing 1140 litres of processed country-made liquor, along with a machete.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Vilas Babasaheb Chavan, residing in Gurudatta Colony, Kalepadal, Hadapsar, and Bapu Ashok Jadhav, residing in Amenora near Victory Tower, Lonkar Vasti, Mundhwa, Pune.

The Mundhwa police, along with members of the investigation team, were on patrol duty when they observed a pick-up truck speeding through the area. Suspecting illicit activity, the police pursued the vehicle in a private vehicle and managed to intercept it. However, upon confrontation, the driver and passenger attempted to flee, brandishing a machete and threatening the police. Undeterred, the officers successfully apprehended the suspects after a brief chase.

Upon searching the pick-up truck, police discovered numerous plastic drums containing processed country-made liquor. The seized contraband, along with the machete and the pick-up truck, amounts to a total value of Rs. 3.25 lakh.

This action was taken by the team of police personnel including Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, Police Inspector Crime Babasaheb Nikam, Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Mali, Assistant Police Inspector Annasaheb Tapre, Assistant Sub Police Inspector Santosh Jagtap, Police Dinesh Bhandurge, Santosh Kale, Mahesh Pathak, Rahul More, Yogesh Gaikwad, Nilesh Palve, Swapnil Raskar, Hemant Perne, and Sachin Patil, as per the orders of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Pravin Pawar, Additional Commissioner of Police, and East Regional Division Manoj Patil, and under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police R Raja, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashwini Rakh.
