Pune: The Anti-Extortion Squad One of the crime branches busted online betting operations in Pune. In the latest operation, crime branch police apprehended a few accused who were betting during the cricket match between the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans in the IPL.

In the crackdown, police arrested two people who were betting online on different websites on IPL matches and seized the money worth Rs. 1 lakh. This action took place at Purnima Apartment in Salisbury Park on Wednesday, April 17, around 9.45 p.m.

Two accused, apprehended by police in this crackdown, have been identified as Wasim Babasaheb Bagwan (36), residing at Sunrise Apartment, Handewadi Road, Hadapsar, and Tejas Kanhaiyalal Ruparel (42), residing at Poornima Apartment Salisbury Park, Pune. Crime Branch police also booked other mobile number holders under IPC 420, the Prohibition of Gambling Act, and the IT Act.

In this regard, police constable Surendra Dilip Jagdale has filed a complaint at Swargate police station.

As per the information, police officers and personnel of Anti-Extortion Squad One were patrolling the Swargate Police Station area. At that time, the team got information that online betting was being done and played on the IPL cricket match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans in Flat No. 15 of the B Building of Purnima Apartment.

Accordingly, police first confirmed the authenticity of the news and raided the place. At that time, the accused was found to be gambling by using different websites on mobile phones. Accordingly, police took all the accused into custody today and seized a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh and 5 thousand. Police Inspector Pratap Mankar is conducting further investigation into the case.
