Akshata Samiti of Nandurbar district police stops child marriage

NANDURBAR : NpNews24 Online  –  Nandurbar Police | Nandurbar district SP PR Patil came to know that a minor girl’s marriage was going to take place at Valamba Kathi in Akkalkuva taluka on March 30. The team of Akshata Samiti went to the village and stopped the marriage from taking place. The team also created awareness and told the parents to conduct the marriage after the girl became a major. After they came to know that a child marriage was going to take place, the Chief of Askahta Cell, API Naina Deore and the team immediately reached Valamba Kathi village in Akkalkuva taluka. They got information about the child marriage with the help of gram sevak, police patil, sarpanch, deputy sarpanch, anganwadi worker, Asha worker. They came to know that the girl whose marriage was going to be held was 14 years and 2 months old. Her marriage was going to be held with a youth from Devrukhli village in Tapi district of Gujarat. However, the Akshata Cell prevented the marriage from taking place.

 

SP PR Patil said, “The Operation Akshata initiative, which is being implemented by Nandurbar district police is becoming successful through public awareness campaigns. Operation Akshata will be implemented in the district in an effective manner. This will help to eliminate the problem of child marriages which are rampant in the district.”

 

The action was taken by API Dhanraj Neele of Molgi police station, API Naina Deore of Akshata Cell, policemen Abhimanyu Gavit, Dilip Nhavi, Aruna Mavchi, social worker Dheersingh Padvi of Walamba Kathi, Gram Sevak Shantilal Bava and anganwadi worker Shivajibai Padvi under the guidance of SP PR Patil, Addl SP Nilesh Tambe, SDPO Sambhaji Sawant and PI Kiran Kumar Khedkar of LCB.
