Pune News | Board of Directors Disqualified: Ganga Village Society Faces Consequences for Violating Cooperative Societies Act

Pune : Pune News |  The Board of Directors of Ganga Village Society at Handewadi Rasta has faced disqualification after failing to comply with the provisions of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act during the Annual General Meeting. The action was taken by the Deputy Secretary of Pune City Co-operative Society 4 D.S. Hausare.

The board members have been banned from contesting society elections for a period of one year as a result of their non-compliance. Ganga Village Society, comprising 672 flats and a population of approximately 2500, has been affected by this decision.

The disqualification was prompted by a complaint filed by member Popat Wadkar, who alleged that the Board of Directors had disregarded the Cooperative Societies Act during the Annual General Meetings held in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Deputy Registrar Hausare conducted an inquiry and concluded that the board had indeed neglected its duties, leading to their disqualification.

Nineteen individuals, including Chairman Yogendra Gaikwad, Secretary Dilawar Sheikh, and several other board members, have been disqualified and barred from participating in society elections for one year. This decision has been welcomed by society members who had been suffering due to the arbitrary conduct of the board. They express satisfaction with the action taken, but some are calling for longer bans and are considering approaching the High Court to further pursue their demands.

Section 75 of the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960 states that committee members are collectively responsible for the decisions made during their term, pertaining to the organization’s functioning. The dissolution of the Ganga Village Society’s Board of Directors and their one-year ban from elections stem from their failure to comply with sections 73(1 a b) and 75(2), (3), (7), (8), (3), and (4) of the Act.

Advisers Umesh Pardeshi, Suman Khetwal, D.T. Shitole, and Rahul Kulkarni, along with former Chairman Vikas Bhujbal, Advocate Kabir Shaikh, Dr. Mangesh Wagh, Arvind Godbole, Anil Bhujbal, former Secretary Nazir Sheikh, Ravindra Pote, Dr. Avinash Lodam, Dilip Bidve, and Shobhanath Yadav, among other society members, have expressed their contentment with the decision, emphasizing the need for justice and stricter penalties for those found guilty of misconduct.
