12-year-old Aarav is the youngest player to be selected for the World Cup!!

Pune, June 14: Pune’s Aarav Sachin Sancheti has been selected for the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Under-17 Snooker Championship 2023. 12-year-old Aarav is the youngest player to be selected for the World Cup and will represent the Indian team participating in the tournament.

 

The IBSF World Under-17 Snooker Championship 2023 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from July 7 to 16, 2023. Mayur Garg, Aarav Sancheti, Jabez Navin Kumar, Mayank Karthik, S. Lakshmi Narayan, A. Abdul Saif, Sham Allwin, Herrick Dereen have been selected in the Indian Team for this tournament. Among them, 12-year-old Aarav has become the youngest player, adding to that he is the youngest player from Pune City to achieve such a milestone.

 

Aarav’s hard work and consistent performance created such an opportunity for him. In October 2022, Aarav finished second in the Junior (under 21) snooker tournament at the BSAM Maharashtra State Selection Tournament held at the Dadar Club in Mumbai. Along with this, he also proved his quality by winning second place in the sub-junior (under 18 years) snooker and billiards competition. Aarav finished fourth in the sub-junior snooker category at the National Snooker Championship held in Indore in November 2022.

 

Aarav Sancheti is the son of national and state level snooker and billiards player Sachin Sancheti and like his father, he has proved his worth in this form of cue sports. Aarav is currently ranked India No. 4 in Sub-Junior Snooker Group and Maharashtra No. 2 (State Level) Sub-Junior and Junior Snooker Group.

 

Aarav trains at the Yasin Merchant Snooker Academy under the guidance of Yasin Merchant. Also practices at PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Amerona Fern Club. Aarav is studying in 7th standard at Global India International School, Hadapsar.

 

Speaking about the selection, Mr. Rajan Khinwsara, President, Billiards and Snooker Federation of India said, “Young lad I have been watching him since he might be 10 of his age, who use to take platform to reach table to play and this is was dream of mine that young blood flourishing to International or World level. What more we can expect from one individual and this is just the beginning for the state and country to have and groom such young blood young talent to represent the country at world level. This boy has been practicing sincerely also and he has that passion to play. I have seen couple of times and any help needed for this such young generation to be marching on the path of good play, I and BSFI whole fraternity would definitely back up”.

 

Mr. Kumar Tamhane, President, PYC Hindu Gymkhana said that “Q Sports has always been encouraged by PYC Hindu Gymkhana Club for all city players since decades by organising World Cups, National and State level tournaments. It is a matter of pride for all of us that the club’s player Aarav Sancheti is representing our country as well as the city at the world level. We will try to provide the environment and facilities in such a way that talented and qualified players like Aarav will be produced in the club.”
