PUNE: Pune PMC Action On Dangerous Old Wada | Before the monsoon starts, the building construction department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carries out a survey of old and dilapidated wadas and makes plans for their evacuation but the owners and tenants who are staying in these wadas for many years, don’t want to vacate the wadas. The PMC has given rent certificates and has assured them that in new constructions, they would be given a flat measuring 300 sq foot. Due to this, the building construction department has been able to demolish 30 wadas till June 10.
According to the information given by the building construction department, notices have been issued to residents of 58 wadas and buildings which are in dilapidated condition. Of these, 30 wads have been demolished and 11 wadas have been repaired. The remaining dangerous parts of the wadas have been removed. The dangerous parts measure up to 19,990 sq foot.
Although the monsoon has arrived in the city, the survey of old wadas is being carried out by the disaster management team, building construction department and a three-member committee of a private organisation. It has been found that 44 wadas are in a dangerous condition. Since the palkhis are in the city, the survey work has been stopped for three days and it will be re-started after the palkhis leave the city.
