Pune : Tree poaching in Pimpri, Fruit trees worth Rs 25 lakh cut & sold

Pimpri : One has to get permission to cut down a tree in the city. However, in a shocking incident, it has come to light that trees worth Rs 25 lakh near Ranmala Hotel at Walhekarwadi in Chinchwad have been cut down and sold without license. Chinchwad police have registered a case against Vijay Vitthal Chinchwade and Sharad Vitthal Chinchwade (both residents of Walhekarwadi, Chinchwad).

Nitin Dattatraya Chinchwade (58, resident of IDL Colony, Kothrud) has lodged a complaint with Chinchwad police. The plaintiff and the accused are relatives. The plaintiff owns a land in Walhekarwadi where fruit trees like Mango, Jackfruit, Chiku (Sapodilla), Acacia and other small and big trees have been planted. In March, the accused encroached on his premises, cut down trees worth Rs 25 lakh without any license and sold them. Police sub-inspector Talwande is investigating the matter.
