FIR lodged against Bengaluru woman who alleged assault by Zomato delivery boy

Bengaluru : Zomato delivery executive Kamaraj has lodged an FIR has been registered against Instagram influencer Hitesha Chandranee. Chandranee, a model-turned-makeup artiste, had accused Kamaraj of attacking her, in Karnataka’s Bengaluru. She has been booked under sections 355 (assault), 504 (insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kamaraj, .

Chandranee had shared a video clip on her social media handles accusing Zomato food delivery executive Kamaraj of brutally hitting her which left her nose bleeding. According to her, the incident happened after a dispute over a delay in the delivery of food. Soon Chandranee’s video spread like wildfire in cyberspace, prompting the online food delivery platform to step in and suspend the delivery executive. Police, on the basis of the viral video, had taken Kamaraj into custody on March 8.

Zomato executive Kamaraj rebuffed allegations made by Chandranee. Kamaraj had claimed that she refused to pay after taking the order which led to a dispute, and she began hitting him. He said that when he tried to safeguard himself, he touched her right hand and the ring she had worn hit her nose, leaving a bloody gash.

A report by ANI had quoted the delivery agent as saying, “I don’t want to make it more complicated, let the truth win. If not, I will fight it legally. I have a mother with comorbid conditions, my father died 15 years back, I am the only breadwinner for my family. I have been working in Zomato for the past 26 months with 4.7 ratings. As of now, the company has blocked my ID until this case completes and assured of taking it back once the matter resolves.”
