Canal committee meeting: No water cut in Pune at present, says Chandrakant Patil

PUNE : NpNews24 Online  – Pune Water Supply News | Considering the monsoon forecast this year, it is necessary to save water in the dams. Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil has asked the Pune Municipal Corporation to prepare a plan of action in eight days to overcome technical problems, which are created when there is a water cut for a day per week, which affects water supply in some areas on the next day. The meeting of the canal committee was held at the government guest house under the chairmanship of Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil. MP Vandana Chavan, MLA Dattatray Bharne, MLA Madhuri Misal, MLA Rahul Kul, MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, MLA Ashok Pawar, MLA Sanjay Jagtap, MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, PMC Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, Executive Director of Krishna Valley Development Corporation Atul Kapote, Chief Engineer Hanumant Gunale, Superintendent Engineer Sunanda Jagtap were present for the Khadakwasla dam canal committee meeting.

 

Patil said, “Considering the IMD forecast for monsoon, there may be water shortage. A discussion has been held in the ministerial meeting. Various measures are being taken by the government. Planning of hay is going on and there are plans to bring hay from neighbouring states. Plans are being made to ensure that the water in the dam is supplied till August.”

 

“Water management till July 15 has been done for Pune city and if water cut is implemented once a week, water can be supplied till August. People’s representatives have complained that if water cut is implemented for one day per week, water supply to some areas is affected for next few days. The civic body should carry out a study and submit plans of technical measures which can be undertaken. Till then, water cuts will not be implemented. Sufficient water needs to be supplied for agriculture,” he said.

 

In the four dams of Khadakwasla reservoir, till April 25, there is 11.61 TMC water. Accordingly, plans have been made and water from the New Mutha Canal will be supplied for agriculture from May 1 to June 15. For PMC, 4.53 TMC water has been reserved till July 15.

 

Discussion about lining of old Mutha right canal, construction of a tunnel for new Mutha right canal from Khadakwasla reservoir till Loni Kalbhor, Janai Shirsai Irrigation Scheme, strengthening of Purandar Irrigation Scheme took place in the meeting.
