Pune Police Crime Branch News | Imposter ‘major’ arrested for cheating; Used to also cheat women on matrimonial websites
PUNE : Pune Police Crime Branch News | An imposter who used to move around wearing army uniform has been arrested by Military Intelligence (MI) and AEC 2 of Pune police Crime Branch in a joint operation. They have found Aadhaar card and PAN card at his Southern Command address. He used to cheat women on matrimonial websites by pretending to be a major in the Indian Army.
The accused has been identified as Prashant Bhaurao Patil (32), a resident of Khanapur taluka, Belagavi district. An FIR was registered against him earlier for sexually assaulting women after promising to marry them. The police have seized two mobiles including an IPhone, two uniforms of Indian Army, other paraphernalia, three Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, identity card, four colour photos of him wearing army uniform.
Policeman Amol Parshuram Pilane has registered a complaint (184/23) at the Bund Garden police station.
According to the police, the MI had submitted a complaint to the city police and asked it to take action against Prashant Patil. Sr PI of AEC Pratap Mankar and his colleague Patil were searching for him. He was arrested after they came to know that he was at Chikhali. He had purchased two uniforms of subedar rank from the shop of Subedar Major Suresh More and other material and had cheated him of ₹4,700. He was cheating people from 2019 by telling them that he was in the army.
He had photographed himself wearing army uniform by telling people that he was posted at the Southern Command. He was using a fake ID and pretended to be an officer in the Southern Command. Despite the fact that he was not staying at the Southern Command, he had prepared a fake Aadhaar and PAN cards and was cheating people. FIRs are registered against him at Sinhagad Road and Wakad police stations and in Ahmed Nagar.
Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Satish Govekar guided Sr PI Pratap Mankar, API Changdev Sajgane, PSI Shrikant Chavan, PSI Mohandas Jadhav, policemen Vijay Gurav, Pradip Shitole, Surendra Jagdale, Vinod Salunke, Sangram Shingare, Ishwar Andhale, Anil Mengde, Rahul Uttarkar, Saidoba Bhojrao, Sachin Ahivale, Amol Pilane, Chetan Apte, Shantar Sampatte, Pavan Bhosale, Chetan Shirolkar, Pradip Gade and Asha Kolekar in taking the action.
