Shrikant Pangarkar, ex-corporator arrested by ATS in Nalasopara explosives case

Former Shiv-Sena corporation has been picked up by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Jalna for his alleged link to anti-social activities in the explosive case of Nalasopara.

Shrikant Jagannath Pangarkar (42), a resident of Jalna and currently residing in Aurangabad was arrested by ATS on Sunday. He was produced before the court of the Judicial Magistrate and remanded to police custody till August 28 on Monday.

Pangarkar has been picked by, in the on-going a case of seizure of explosives and arms in Maharashtra. He is a former corporate of Shiv Sena’s Jalna was registered in which Pangarkar is found guilty and has been arrested by the police.

Now, it is been suspected that the case of explosives is somehow linked to the Dabholkar’s murder case. The CBI is still probing into the case. Pangarkar gave money for the illegal weapons kept in the case of Nalasopara.

On 10 August, the three persons — Vaibhav Raut, Sharad Kalaskar, and Sudhanwa Gondhalekar — were arrested by the ATS from Palghar and Pune districts in connection with the seizure of a large number of bombs and weapons. All the three are currently arrested by ATS.

The state’s anti-terror agency had alleged that the accused were planning to carry out blasts in the state ahead of the Independence Day and the Bakri-Eid. The ATS also said it would inquire more on the case whether the accused had any connection with the killings of rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare, and journalist Gauri Lankesh.

Pangarkar, who joined Shiv Sena in the year 2001, left Shiv Sena in the year 2011 and is known to be the full-fledged active member of Sanathan Santha. Three years back he settled in Aurangabad for the purpose of his daughter’s education, which is some 60 kilometers from Jalna. Father of two children, Shrikant has done his schooling from Jalna.
