Another cricketer turns into politician

Gautam Gambhir is all set to join Bharatiya Janata Party, the left-handed batsman has not yet retired from international cricket.

Bhartiya Janata Party who is not in power in Delhi is trying its best to move the Aam Admi Party from the apex. They have started rebuilding in the nation’s capital by convincing Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir to contest the election.

Gambhir is not the first cricketer to enter in the field of politics. Earlier, Navjot Singh Siddhu, Mohammad Kaif, Praveen Kumar, Vinod Kambli and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi has tried their luck in politics.

Siddhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004 and contested the general elections from Amritsar. He won the election and held the seat till 2014 winning also the next election. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2016 from Punjab before he resigned from the position the same year and quitting the party. In 2017, he joined the Indian National Congress and was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly from Amritsar East.

Mohammad Kaif joined Indian National Congress and contested 2014 Loksabha election from Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh, and lost to Keshav Prasad Maurya of the BJP. Praveen Kumar joined Samajwadi Party in 2016.

Vinod Kambli joined the Lok Bharati Party and was appointed the vice-president of the party. He contested the 2009 Assembly election from Vikhroli, Mumbai as a Lok Bharati Party candidate and lost the election. However, he continues to do social work. In 2011, He supported Anna Hazare’s campaign of India against Corruption.

Delhi based Indian Opening batsmen Gautam Gambhir played his last international Test match in 2016 versus England at Rajkot. He played his last one-day international match in 2013 versus England and played last T20 international in 2012 versus arch-rival Pakistan.

Gautam Gambhir who left his IPL team KKR in 2018 IPL didn’t play much with his hometown franchise Delhi Daredevils. He also stepped down from as the captain of Delhi Daredevils. After leaving the captaincy he was never picked again in the squad. This means he that his cricketing career has almost over thus it is possible that he may join the politics.
