Pune police’s Tuesday Review Meeting helps resolve people’s issues

Pune: NP NEWS 24 – Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham soon after taking charge of the Pune police commissionerate in August this year, instituted a slew of new measures.

One of the initiatives called Tuesday Review Meeting (TRM), a weekly meeting, has helped in tracking status of various instructions, pending issues.

During the TRM, a review of police station visitors complaint is undertaken. Since September 1, 2018, a Tablet has been distributed to each police station and two police personnel have been trained on the system called ‘Service Excellence & Victim Assistance (SEVA)’. The details of every person visiting the police station are recorded in the system. Till November 15, a total of 10,197 persons visited the police stations and only 232 of them were not satisfied with the police service. During the TRM, all these persons were contacted by senior police officers and their issues were resolved.

Officials said that SEVA is part of the visitor management system launched by the government departments on the instructions of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The continuous review of work being done and their status is available at a click of the mouse, will go a long way in resolving people’s grievances.

On the other hand, since September 5, all the police control room vans have got GPS which helps in their easy tracking. As soon as a distress call is received, the nearest vehicle is sent there based location of the caller. This has also helped in visible policing which builds confidence among people.

Similarly, passport verification pendency has been brought down to 0.4 % Till now out of 127155 applications only 565 are pending.

The Pune city is on the way of becoming the smart city. On this background, Pune city police have launched the drive to remove beggars from various junctions and they are being sent to beggar reception centre and to shelter homes. In the last three months action has been taken against 135 beggars.

 

On the front of the economic offence, 31 % percent of applications have been disposed out of 51 cases.

The anti-narcotics cell of Crime Branch has filed 23 cases between August to November, while between January to July there were 39 cases. More crackdown from the anti-narcotics cell is expected as the Pune has huge student and youth population, drugs flow in the city is also high.

The Cybercrime cell has done the fantastic job by helping259 persons get back their Rs 4.56 crores which were syphoned off from their accounts. Also, the new cyber police station has been set up since October 16 at the police headquarters in Shivajinagar.

Continuous training is an essential element of keeping the workplace up to date. In this regard, 1036 police personnel have been given various training including communication skills, emotional quotient etc.

Traffic Branch

Often people are seen arguing with traffic cops. In order to avoid confrontations, the traffic branch has got 17 body cameras and soon the numbers will be increased to 100.

WhatsApp group of officials from different departments have been formed for easy flow of information. Also, 104 busy junctions have been identified and they have been declared no traffic rule violation zone. Between October 19 and 25, the action was taken against 26612 persons.

All the senior officials have been supporting the initiative as these showing some desired results.

The team is duly supported by ACPs Sameer Shaikh, Bhanupratap Barge, other officers and in-charge of all the police stations.
