PMPML’s contractors withdraw strike, Bus service resumes providing relief to Puneites

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – PMPML Strike | Contractors Olectra, Hansa, Anthony and Travel Time had gone on strike because their three months’ bills were pending with PMPML. After the PMPML administration cleared the dues of ₹66 crore late on Monday night, the contractors withdrew their strike on late Monday night. This led to normalisation of PMPML services in Pune and PCMC area. The students and the common man had to bear the brunt of the contractors’ strike. (PMPML Strike)

The contractors supply buses to PMPML. Some contractors had gone on strike without giving prior intimation from Sunday demanding immediate payment of pending dues of ₹90 crore. Eight lakh passengers were affected by the strike. PMPML’s senior officials had started negotiations with the contractors. The contractors had said that they will allow the buses to operate only after the dues are paid.

If the strike had continued, it would have affected students appearing for SSC and HSC exams. Against this background, a delegation of BJP and MVA had met Chairman and MD of PMPML Omprakash Bakoria on Monday. The PMC gave ₹54 crore and PCMC gave ₹36 crore. Out of this amount, ₹66 crore was given to the contractors and the remaining amount was given to MNGL as pending dues. The contractors later withdrew their strike.
