Nandurbar police arrest three for food grain theft

Nandurbar : NpNews24 Online The Nandurbar Police Local Crime Branch (LCB) and the Upnagar police station, in a joint action, arrested three persons, who stole food grain stored at a godown and would sell it in other states. The culprits were arrested from outside the State.

 

The theft took place between 8 pm on February 24 and 9 am on February 25. The accused stole valuables worth over Rs 4.15 lakh. The accused have been identified as Raghuveer Janak Singh Chauhan (45), a resident of Selamba, Sagbara, dist. Narmada, Ishwar Devalaya Vasava (37), Bawali, Songad, dist. Tapi and Sanjay Damu Vasave (45), a resident of Patil Phali, Navapur.

 

Dhanesh Mohandas Selvani (45), a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Nandurbar, lodged a complaint with the Upnagar police station. The police had registered an offence against unidentified persons.

 

According to the police, complainant Dhanesh Selvani has a godown, where he buys and sells food grain in his shops Shri Shaneshwar Trading and Shivsagar Traders. He closed his shops and went home at 8 pm on February 24. Next day, he found that a tin sheet of his shop was cut as he entered his shop. In all, 3,120-kg ajwain worth Rs 4.05 lakh, 100-kg toor dal worth Rs 5,500 and raw material worth Rs 4,800 were stolen.

 

Realising the gravity of the incident, Superintendent of Police PR Patil instructed the LCB and Upnagar police to form a joint team and arrest the accused. During investigation, LCB PI Ravindra Kalamkar and PI Narendra Bhadane got a tip-off that a person from Selamba in Gujarat was arriving to sell a big stock of ajwain. The police team travelled to Selamba and arrested Chauhan, who was to sell ajwain. On sustained interrogation, he told the police that Ishwar from Bawali, Songad had sold him the stock.

 

The team reached Bawali; however, Ishwar was not traceable. Finally, he was nabbed from a field, where he was hiding. Ishwar told the police that Sanjay from Rayangan, Navapur had sold him the stock.

 

The police reached Rayangan, where they came to know that Sanjay works at a poultry farm in Navapur, where he was held after a chase. Initially, he was not giving proper information. However, later the police made him spill the beans.

 

Three persons have been arrested while other accused in the case would be held soon. The stolen goods would be seized, said SP PR Patil.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of SP PR Patil, Addl SP Vijay Pawar, and SDPO Sachin Hiray. LCB PI Ravindra Kalamkar, PI Narendra Bhadane, API Sandeep Patil, police personnel Mukesh Tawade, Mahendra Nagarale, Sajan Wagh, Manoj Naik, Shoab Shaikh, Keshav Gavit and Ankush Gavit took part in the action.
