Instead of taking videos and selfies at emergency situation, go for help- COP Neelam Gaikwad

After the breach of the canal that burst in the Mutha canal, a panic situation was created and hundreds of houses went under the water near the Dandekar bridge of Pune. People started running here and there to save their lives and their families. But this incident of humanitarian has shown that women police can also lead with their wit.

The incident took place on Thursday morning, a huge crowd was gathered only to watch the happenings but few responded. Gathered people knew that, the affected family needs urgent help, but still people were busy in shooting videos and taking selfies instead of coming for help.

Parents remained outdoors for work and children are usually at home every day in the underprivileged area. Due to the sudden flow of water, it might have created a serious harm to the life of these children’s life.

At this time, constable Neelam Gaikwad got information that some children were trapped inside the houses, because of the canal burst. As soon as she got the information about it, she reached the spot he and started rescuing these children. She rescued them one by one by lifting them out of the situation, as the small stones which were flowing with water might have caused harm to their feet. COP who did her duty very well was appreciated by everyone.

 

“After looking at the crying faces of those who loosed their homes, I came in forward with my other co-operatives for helping them without thinking anything. In an emergency condition, people should help immediately the needy people, then taking selfies,” said Police Constable Neelam Gaikwad attached to Pune city commissionerate.

 

National Art Academy honored Constable Neelam Gaikwad for her brave work. On this occasion, Social worker Uday Jagtap, Academy’s Mandar Ranjekar, Roma Lande, Atul Sonvane, Sagar Raut, Partik Athane, Subhash Dhadphale, Yogesh Jadhav, Amar Lande were present during this time.

 

Gaikwad recalling the incident said,  “Canal burst out and water spread everywhere. Lots of people were trapped inside homes. We were not able to understand whom to help. People were refusing to go ahead. At such condition, I could control and wait for another order, I just stepped ahead and entered the water flow as I thought I can’t just order anyone until I initiate helping the people. As soon as I started rescuing the people, they came ahead and did same. One person’s imitative can really make a huge difference. People were gathered to watch the scenario, but this crowd should have come ahead to help.”
