Pune Police Sub-Inspector Accused of Taking Bribe; ACB Lodges Complaint

Pune: In a significant action, the Pune anti-corruption bureau (ACB Pune) has registered a case against the police sub-inspector for taking a bribe of Rs three lakh in order to avoid legal action. The accused police officer has been identified as Sub-Inspector of Police Tanhaji Sarjerao Shegar. Shegar works at Chandannagar Police Station in the Pune Police Commissionerate.

In this case, a 40-year-old man lodged a complaint against the police officer with the Pune ACB. This action has created a stir in the Pune police department.

According to the information, the plaintiff works at the Mahavitaran department. PSI Shegar informed that he had received a complaint regarding meter theft against the plaintiff, and to not take any action against the plaintiff, Shegar demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from him. As the amount was huge for the plaintiff to pay, the plaintiff and the accused police officer mutually agreed to a price of Rs 3 lakh in the compromise.

After that, the plaintiff immediately reported the entire incident to the Pune ACB. On verification by the ACB team, they found that PSI Shegar indeed demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the plaintiff. Accordingly, ACB has registered a case against PSI Tanhaji Shegar. Further investigation in this case is being conducted by ACB Police Inspector Rupesh Jadhav.

This action was taken by the Pune ACB team under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve.
