Pimpri-Chinchwad : Crores of rupees spent on cleaning, still rivers stink

Pimpri-Chinchwad :  All party corporators meeting with the environment department was held on Wednesday. During this meeting, all party corporators asked the environment department that “Crores of rupees are spent every year for the conservation of the city’s environment. However, the pollution of rivers is not reduced. Trees are cut down. Exactly what’s going on?”

The city’s current environmental report was presented before Wednesday’s general meeting. However, a few hours before the meeting, that is, after 8 pm on Tuesday, it was submitted to the corporators which was objected. Some corporators did not receive the report until the meeting started. So they gave excuse that when to read the report and what to say about it? Therefore, the discussion on the relevant subject was postponed till the next meeting.

Meanwhile, two engineers for the environment department were sent to Nagaland for training. However, after years of training, the engineers are working in other departments instead of the environment, said Tushar Kamthe. Administrative Officer Manoj Lonakar could not give a satisfactory explanation to this.

So the Commissioner Shravan Hardikar answered, “In the old scheme of the corporation, only one executive post was sanctioned for the environment department. However, under the new scheme, two posts of City Engineer and Deputy Engineer have been sanctioned. As their qualification is being fulfilled, the relevant proposal has been sent to the state government for guidance and instructions regarding the appointment to those posts.”
