The first Smart City Hackathon launched by Pune Smart City in Partnership with NITI Aayog Concludes Successfully

The first Smart City Hackathon launched by Pune Smart City Development Corporation (PSCDCL) in partnership with NITI Aayog at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) concluded successfully. The hackathon witnessed 48 top ideas/ teams from different parts of the country in varied areas like public health, traffic analysis, water supply and digital connectivity.

Most of the ideas were based on leveraging technology like the Internet of Things (IoT), Block Chain, Artificial Intelligence and others in solving urban governance issues facing citizens of the city including public health care.

After a grueling 36 hours of efforts on part of the participatory teams and two additional rounds of the jury which included senior officers of the govt, Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune Police and the private sector technology majors, following teams were declared as winners in the NITI Aayog – Pune Smart City Hackathon 2018-

Rajat Tarade and Karan Tarade from Anashwar Tech were adjudged winner in the Ideathon category of NITI- Aayog Pune Smart City Hackathon 2018. They received a trophy and an award of Rs. 2 lac.

Prashant Verma, Deepak Kumar and Saikiran Reddy were adjudged winner in the Solutionthon category. They received a trophy and an award of Rs. 2 lac for Digital Connectivity.

Following ideas of exceptional merit were judged by the jury which decided to award Rs. 1 lac each to Puneri Hawa (Solid Waste), Visiris (Safety & Security) and Vaishali Math (Water management)

Both SPPU and PSCDCL shall work with varied govt depts. in the city to implement some of the top ideas as well as have drawn up plans to incubate a few of them.

Mr. Manojit Bose, CKO, PSCDCL and programme coordinator while handing over the participation certificates said, “This hackathon generated a lot of great ideas and solutions which can go a long way in solving citizen centric urban governance problem leveraging technology.”

CEO, PSCDCL Dr. Rajendra Jagtap said, “This is just the beginning and Pune Smart City will continue to focus on innovation as an agenda and look at potentially incubating some of the top ideas. We are happy to partner with NITI Aayog, SPPU, Tech Mahindra, NASSCOM, Deloitte, RBL Bank, Red Bull and all other support partners.
