Sawai to take place at Mahrashtriya Mandal Ground at Mukund Nagar

Two days after the decade-long event of iconic Musical fest of Swai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav which was rejected by the school on ground issue finally it get a new donation in Mukundnagar.

Giving Sports event the Pune’s iconic classical music fest Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav out of its decade-old venue at Ramanbaug.

66th Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav being organized by the Arya Sangeet Prasark Mandal will take place at a new venue this year after the management of New English School Raman Baug declined to provide its ground for this iconic event. This year the festival will take place at the Maharashtriya Mandal Ground at Mukund Nagar between December 12th and 16th. This was informed by Shrinivas Joshi, Executive President of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal.

He also thanked all the organizations who voluntarily came forward and offered their grounds for the event. He specially thanked Dhananjay Damle, Secretary, Maharashtriya Mandal for agreeing to host the event at their ground. Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi was actively associated with the Maharashtriya Mandal and was a part of various initiatives undertaken by them.

 

“We are indeed grateful to all those who contacted us in the past few days and offered all possible support when this unexpected situation got created”, said Shrinivas Joshi

 

Such announcement was carried on Monday, the Arya Sangeet Prasarak mandal, the organisers, revealed that this year, the 66th edition of the Sawai Gandharva will not be held at Ramanbaug as there is a sports event on the school ground clashing with the event during the same period.

 

“The Deccan education society has informed us through a written communication that the place will be unavailable for the Sawai Gandharva. In this scenario, there is a crisis with the venue for this year’s festival,” said Shrinivas Joshi, executive president, Arya Sangeet Prasarak mandal.

The late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi started the festival in 1952, in the memory of his Guru, Sawai Gandharva. Pt. Joshit made sustained efforts to make sure that music in this festival was not bound by one particular gharana, but becomes a platform for best performers and artistes of various genres from across the country. He kept prices of tickets minimal.
