Pune Triple Talaq Case | Triple talaq case: Man held for physically and mentally harassing his wife; Other accused approach court to seek anticipatory bail
PUNE: Pune Triple Talaq Case | The Khadki police have arrested a man for physically and mentally torturing his wife and for giving her triple talaq and the court had remanded him to police custody for two days. After the police custody was over, the court remanded him to judicial custody on May 25, 2023 and he has secured bail. However, the woman’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law have approached the court to seek anticipatory bail.
The arrested accused has been identified as Aqib Ayub Mulla (31), a resident of Nana Peth. He was arrested by the Khadki police station officials on May 23, 2023. It is being said that this may be the first case in Pune of a man being arrested for giving his wife triple talaq.
A 23-year-old girl has lodged a complaint and accordingly, an FIR has been registered against her husband Aqib Ayub Mulla (31), mother-in-law Zahida Ayub Mulla, father-in-law Ayub Siddique Mulla, sister-in-law Fareen Sufiyan Shaikh and Sufian Javed Shaikh under sections 498 (A0, 354, 323, 504 and 34 of the IPC and section 4 of the Muslim Women Act, 2019.
The incident took place from December 23, 2022 to April 17, 2023 at flat number four on first floor of Vishram Society in lane number three of Pudumjee Park of New Nana Peth. The accused hatched a conspiracy and physically and mentally harassed the complainant after doubting her character.
On April 17, 2023, Aqib Ayub Mulla told talaq, talaq, talaq to his wife and told her that there was no relation between them.
Later, the complainant lodged a complaint with the Khadki police station and an FIR was registered. Meanwhile, Aqib Ayub Mulla was arrested on May 23, 2023. The court remanded him to two-day police custody. When he was produced in the court on May 25, the court remanded him in judicial custody. Now, the court has granted him bail. However, the other accused have not been arrested and they have approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. The hearing on their application is yet to be held. The Khadki police are carrying out a probe.
