Pune PMC Encroachment Drive | Anti-encroachment inspectors in a fix as seniors tell them to spare certain traders in Pune

Pune : NpNews24 Online –  Pune PMC Encroachment Drive |  Following the appointment of the administrator in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the Anti-Encroachment Department has been working overtime. Roads, footpaths and public places are being freed from encroachments like never before. (Pune PMC Encroachment Drive )

However, anti-encroachment inspectors are confused as they are getting directives from senior officials that they should not act against certain commercial properties. It is said that there are ‘financial dealings’ behind such directives.

The PMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department has been acting against illegal hawkers, hand-cart owners, stalls, which have encroached upon public roads. They are also removing unauthorised businesses being carried out in the side and front margins of buildings.

The stationary handcart owners, who have been issued licences after 2014, have been asked to move their handcarts during night after business hours as per a Supreme Court order. The revised rent charges are being recovered from them. They have also been asked to pay outstanding dues.

The business owners, who have suffered losses during the pandemic, are fed up with the Anti-Encroachment Department’s frequent actions.

However, while the anti-encroachment drive is underway, seniors have also been instructing them not to ‘touch’ certain business owners. This has made the job of anti-encroachment inspectors tough, who are facing ire of the ‘affected’ traders.

Reputed hoteliers on FC road, Apte road, including a bakery owner and fruit vendors have been spared in Deccan Gymkhana area.

Such discrimination is blamed on ‘financial dealings’ in civic circles in the city. Commoners are asking as to who has been protecting illegal business in the city for decades.
