PMC cuts illegal water connections of hotels, marriage halls on DP road following anti-encroachment action

Pune: NpNews24 Online   – The Water Supply Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted a survey of water connections given to the demolished structures on the DP road in Erandwane. Now, it has cut 15 illegal connections after surveying 26 commercial properties. They have also seized a water pump and pipes. The remaining properties are using borewell water.

 

The PMC Anti-Encroachment Department acted against unauthorized properties, including lawns, hotels in the green belt from Mhatre bridge to Rajaram bridge. Some business owners got a stay order from the court against the action. Hence, they were spared. Later, the civic chief directed the Water Supply Department to scrutinize the water connections given to the demolished structures. Hence, it acted swiftly against 26 properties with illegal water connections.

 

Giving details about the action, PMC Water Supply Department Superintending Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar said that they have disconnected seven half-inch, three one-inch and five other water connections. They also seized a water pump and pipes from a reputed hotelier. Many property owners had taken more than one connection as they are mainly hotels and marriage halls. In all, 25 water connections are authorized and have water meters. Some properties are using only borewell water. Rs 2.61 lakh was recovered against pending water bills from a property owner.
