Protest against CAB/ CAA 

Pune: npnews24 Online – A peaceful protest was carried out against CAB/CAA ( Citizenship Amendment Bill/ Act). The protest was carried out successfully by Assamese people residing in Pune today in 9 am.

 

The initiative was taken by LUIT- The Assamese Society in Pune at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden gate, J.M. road, Pune, Shivaji Nagar. 50 to 60 folks from Pune joined this protest. Working, students, old – aged, youngsters all were involved in this protest.  The public held boards in their hands asking for justice.

What is CAB?
It amends the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for religious minorities from the predominantly Muslim countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Six minorities are specified in the bill: Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians. To obtain citizenship under the amended law, an applicant must have entered India by 31 December 2014, and have suffered “religious persecution or fear of religious persecution” in their country of origin.The amendment also relaxes the residence requirement for naturalization of these migrants from 11 years to 5 years. According to the Indian Intelligence Bureau, over 30,000 migrants are expected to be benefited from the amended Citizenship Act.
