Policeman files FIR against another cop

Pune: In an unusual case, a policeman from Sahakaranagar police station under Pune city police, has filed FIR against another cop from the same police station for allegedly obstructing him discharging his official duty.

All this happened when the complainant, who was beaten marshall duty, tried to close down a Paan stall (tapri) for operating beyond 1 am on September 5.

Police-constable Gangadhar Bapurao Wagalgao has lodged the complaint against Police Naik Sanjay Bhapkar and Shailesh Pawar, a resident of Dhankawadi. Both Wagalgao and Bhapkar are posted with Sahakarnagar police station.

According to police, the incident took place around 1.10 am at Monster Energy Point stall at Ahilyabai Chowk in Balajinagar. Wagalgao was on beat marshall duty and asked the stall owner to close the stall as it was operating beyond midnight. This led to arguments between them. He called policeman Bhapkar who also took the stall owner’s side and obstructed Wagalgao from discharging his official duty.

Based on a complaint from Wagalgao, an FIR was registered against policeman Bhapkar and Pawar for offenses under sections 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) 34 (common intention) and 353 (obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A police inspector (crime) Vijay Puranik is further investigating the case.
