Now SIT to investigate Chakan violence during Maratha reservation stir

Pimpri: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – Three months after a mob of over 4,000 turned violent in Chakan during protest called by Maratha Kranti Morcha over various issues including reservation, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe violence.

On July 30, during bandh in Chakan a mob had turned violent. Police have registered case against 4,000 to 5,000 unidentified persons for rioting and violence. The mob had set on fire 20 vehicles and damaged 70 vehicles, besides pelting stones on police personnel and Chakan police station. They had also blocked Pune-Nashik highway.

At the time of violence, the area was under Pune rural police. And since August 15, it has come under Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate. R K Padmanabhan, the police commissioner, has formed the SIT for speedy investigation of the case.

DCP Smartana Patil will be the head of the SIT. The other members include ACP (Chakan division) Chandrakant Aslatwar, Crime Branch ACP Satish Patil, Chakan police station senior police inspector Sunil Pawar, and police inspectors Sudhakar Kate, Uttam Tangde from Crime Branch.
