Pune Police Crack Down on Criminal Gangs Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls in the City


Pune: As the nation gears up for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, Pune braces itself for a crucial voting day on Monday, May 13. In the backdrop of ensuring a peaceful polling process, the Pune administration, in tandem with the vigilant Pune Police, has initiated stringent measures to curb any potential disruptions.

Over the past few days, the city has witnessed unsettling incidents, including gunfire and vehicle vandalization by notorious gangs, instigating fear among residents. Responding to these challenges, the Pune Police, under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade, has launched a crackdown on gangsters, particularly focusing on recidivist offenders and their associates currently out on bail for serious crimes.

The Crime Branch has intensified its operations across various areas, including Kondhwa, Mundhwa, Hadapsar, Bibvewadi, Market Yard, Wanwadi, and Loni Kalbhor. Led by Deputy Commissioner Amol Zende and Assistant Commissioners Sunil Tambe and Satish Govekar, the teams are actively combing the city every night. Residents are urged to promptly report any information regarding the whereabouts of the accused to the nearest police station or the police control room.

The proactive measures extend beyond apprehending known criminals; the police have imposed blockades at strategic points and are conducting nightly combing operations to maintain law and order. Collaborative efforts between local police stations and the Crime Branch are underway to ensure a secure environment for voters on polling day.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Amol Zende, emphasised the importance of preventive action against individuals involved in serious crimes, signalling a robust stance against any attempts to disrupt the election process.
