Pimpri: Pimpri-Chinchwad police have started tightening their grip against criminals to ensure that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are conducted in a fear-free and impartial manner. As a part of it, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey has taken action against 39 accused of eight notorious gangs in Pimpri Chinchwad city under the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime) Act.

So far, the Commissioner of Police has taken action against approximately 396 accused under the MCOCA Act. The Jagtap gang operating within the Bhosari police station limits is the prime target of the police commissioner in this crackdown.

Gang chief Adarsh alias Kukya Govind Jagtap, 22, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Moshi, Pune; Sunil Ranoji Jawle, age 26, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Moshi, Pune; and Rohit alias Kakya Dnyaneshwar Sonwane, age 19, a resident of Alandi Road, Bhosari, Pune, are the names of some of the accused apprehended by police under the latest crackdown.

During the probe into an attempted murder case, Bhosari police uncovered that the suspects had established a network of coordinated attackers and had perpetrated 13 major offences of a similar nature within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police stations. The criminal activities carried out by the perpetrators spanned across areas including Bhosari, Dighi, Wakad, and Faraskhana police station limits, encompassing crimes such as homicide, attempted murder, assault, robbery, burglary, and illegal possession of weapons.

Therefore, the inclusion of Section 3(1)(ii) and 3(2) of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999, has been proposed in a case registered under IPC sections 307, 323, 504, 506, and 34, along with provisions of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and Arms Act at Bhosari Police Station. A request to incorporate Section 3(4) was submitted to Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi. Upon thorough examination of the application, the Additional Commissioner of Police authorised the integration of MCOCA crime into the case.

This action was carried out by the team of Senior Police Inspector Nitin Phatangre, PCB Crime Branch Police Inspector Anil Devade, Police Sub-Inspector Shaikh, Police Constable Sachin Chavan, and Venkappa Karbhari under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime Sandeep Doifode, Deputy Commissioner of Police Circle-1 Swapna Gore, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime-1 Balasaheb Kopnar.
