Interstate gang involved in stealing of sandalwood trees from Khadki Ammunition Factory, arrested by Pune police crime branch

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune Crime | A team of unit 4 of the Pune police crime branch has arrested an interstate gang of thieves which was stealing sandalwood trees after doing a recce in Pune city and nearby areas. During investigation, it has been revealed that the gang had stolen sandalwood from the Khadki ammunition factory and nearby areas. The police have seized goods worth Rs 2 lakh 87 thousand 550 including goods worth Rs one lakh from the accused and Rs one lakh 52 thousand from a person who had purchased the goods from the accused. The accused have been identified as Akshay Aarday, Antros Pawar, Akilal Pardhi and Beerlal Rajput (all residents of Katni, Madhya Pradesh) and two of their aides escaped. Anna Gaikwad, a resident of Ghodegaon, Nevasa taluka, Ahmednagar district, who used to buy the stolen goods, has also been arrested. The questioning of the accused has revealed that they have committed nine crimes in the limits of Khadki police station, Bharati Vidyapeeth police station and Chatuhshrungi police station.

 

Many sandalwood trees were being stolen from the highly sensitive Khadki Ammunition Factory area. Many FIRs have been lodged at the Khadki police station. Senior police officials had instructed a team of unit four to probe the crime.

 

A team of unit four of the crime branch was patrolling in the limits of Khadki police station. The police saw that some people, who were in an autorickshaw, were keeping a watch on the area. When the police tried to question them, they tried to run away but four people were arrested but two people managed to escape. The accused were remanded in police custody and were questioned thoroughly. They admitted stealing sandalwood trees after conducting a recce in Pune city and nearby areas. It was also found during the investigation that they had stolen the sandalwood trees from the premises of Khadki Ammunition Factory.

 

Goods worth Rs 32,000 from two cases were seized from accused Beerlal Rajput and he told the police that he had sold goods stolen from seven other crimes to Anna Gaikwad. The team of policemen apprehended Gaikwad from Nevasa area and seized goods worth Rs one lakh 52 thousand from him.

 

Gaikwad is a notorious sandalwood smuggler and smuggling cases are registered against him at Gujarat, Nevasa, Sonai and Shikrapur police stations.

 

The action was taken by a team of police officials including PI Jayant Rajurkar, API Vikas Jadhav, API Shobha Kshirsagar, PSI Jaydeep Patil, policemen Mahendra Pawar, Rajash Shaikh, Sheetal Shinde, Vinod Mahajan, Sanjay Adhari, Swapnil Kamble, Pravin Bhalchim, Nagesh Kunwar, Vishal Shirke, Saras Salvi, Pravin Karale, Kaustubh Jadhav, Surendra Sable, Ramesh Rathod, Ashok Shelar and Vaishali Makdi under the guidance of CP Amitabh Gupta, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Srinivas Ghadge and ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar.
