In India, there are tri-colored kites flying, kids wearing ‘Tiranga’ batch, caps. Many even flaunt the flags all over the city and raise slogans in the name of India. Most of them witness the event held at Red Fort. Every school, office, college hoists the National flags with pride in their hearts.

Indians have this patriotic feeling inside them, inside their hearts. When it comes to the love for one’s country our people hold no boundaries or seven seas. Many of the people visit the Indian Ambassador’s residence. And the patriotic songs play in the background. The ambassador addresses the citizens by giving a speech. And the event ends with the evergreen ‘National Anthem’.

Let’s have a look how people abroad celebrate Independence Day:

Celebrations in Texas, US State:
Chaitanya Patil (25), Pursuing Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Texas said “I have been proudly representing my nation on foreign soil for a couple of years now. The tricolor flag on my wall is a reminder of all the souls that were sacrificed so that I could live a life of accomplishing my dream. Every Independence Day I take a moment to thank and be grateful for the freedom provided to me by the brave people who dreamt of a free nation and fought for it risking their life.

Today after 71 years of independence I see people fighting amongst themselves for reservation rights. The freedom that we enjoy today should not be taken for granted and we must realize that it has cost someone their life so that we could taste the sweetness of the fruit called freedom. The freedom fighters fought so that India could be free and yet today I see a divided nation. It has been more than 7 decades but I still need to fight for freedom so that I can assure an anti-caste based future for everyone. #ProudIndian #ThankYouAllFreedomFighters #SayNoToReservationSystem #MyCasteIsIndian.”

Celebrations in CANADA:
A Canada based Petroleum Engineer, Rahul Prasad (24) said, “Canada is a very secular country, we Indians can celebrate Independence with freedom. We hoist Indian flags and there is a positive atmosphere as we all the Indians, even though staying out of India are connected with each other. We distribute sweets among ourselves on this day. I feel like I am in India because this place has loved me a lot and I am proud to be an Indian.”

Celebrations in Atlanta, U.S.A:
Shreya Palande working in Jet-airways, People here in Atlanta celebrate Independence Day in Indian Consulate by sharing sweets, best wishes etc. It is a proud moment for every Indian living here to remember all our freedom fighters and pay respect to them. Flag hoisting will be done in the morning followed by National Anthem that makes everybody day a special one.

Africa based students celebrated Indian Independence:

Africa based students celebrated Indian Independence in their own grand way. The Association of African Students in India (AASI Pune chapter), celebrated India’s Independence Day in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Pune Lokmanya Nagar and Columbia Asia hospital on the15th August 2018 including students with guests from India.

Theme of the event was “African Students Stands with India’s Independence” and started off at the Pune University main gate at 8am with an opening prayer by Favour Kalu a Nigerian (Deputy Social Co-ordinator) and a moving speech by Mr Ousman Beyai from The Gambia the AASI Presidential Advisor, thanking the sponsors and all participant while emphasizing on the significance of joining our host country and second home India in celebrating it’s 72nd National Independence Day.

One special event that highlights (or marks) the Independence Day was a sporting event (football tournament) that was conducted at the police parade ground later in the evening.

Clearly, there is a lot of difference between the how various countries celebrate this day, but the feeling is mutual. Those living away from their homeland feel it more. Whether you witness the flying tirangas or not; or you watch the Prime Minister’s speech on DD National or not. But they will be bonded together by those feeling, always.
