US: 9 people dead in San Jose firing, suspect also killed

California : Nine people were killed in a shootout at a rail yard in San Jose, US on Wednesday. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Russell Davis said the suspect was also killed in a shootout at Valley Transportation Authority Light Railyard on Wednesday. No identity has been revealed.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman said the bullets were fired at a railyard in Silicon Valley on Wednesday, killing several people and injuring several others. Suspect was also among the dead. The shootout took place at the rail center which is adjacent to the Santa Clara County Sheriff Department. It is a transit control center where trains stand and a maintenance yard.

Davis said the victims also included personnel from the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). The VTA provides bus, light rail, and other transit services in Santa Clara County. The county is the largest in the Bay Area and is home to Silicon Valley.

San Jose Mayor Sam Liqucardo tweeted, “We have grief in our hearts for the families who have lost their loved ones in this horrific shootout.”

Governor Gavin Newsom said on Twitter that his office is in close contact with local law enforcement and the situation is being closely monitored. Officials said the FBI and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Bureau are present at the crime scene.
