On 14 October 1956, less than two months before he died, B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of India’s Constitution and one of the towering intellects of modern India, converted to Buddhism along with some 365,000 of his followers in Nagpur after a traditional ceremony.

The conversion to the religion which had fascinated him for a long time and he had been studying for years, was one of the pivotal moments in the modern Buddhist movement in India. In the last 62 years, many Indians have changed their religion to Buddhist, but they didn’t get any reservation.

Thus, the Lok Janshakti Party has made a demand that the converted Buddhist should also get the reservation. With this, they have also made a demand to change the condition to get Buddhist caste certificate.

Sachin Jadhav, Pune president of Lok Janashakti Party said, “ Converted Buddhist are also Buddhist and they should be given reservation as well. Buddhist Marriage Law should be imposed for Buddhist Community.”

For these demands, the organization has written a letter to Prime Minister Modi and food and civil supply Minister Ramvilas Pasvan. This letter includes all their demands.

Following are the demands of Lok Jaanshakti Party:

1. Census of all the population of Buddhist community should be made and reservation should be given according to the new census.

2. Buddhist Marriage Law should be applied to all the Buddhist in the country.

3. The condition to get caste certificate for Buddhist should be softened.
