Faulty distribution system leading to leakage of 4 TMC water, says Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil

PUNE: A decision was taken recently to implement water cut on every Thursday in Pune city. However, Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil has said that a leakage of four TMC water was taking place from the pipelines due to the faulty distribution system. For Pune city, 11 TMC water per year has been sanctioned. However, the PMC uses 20 TMC water per year. Patil clarified that water which can be supplied to the city for four months, goes waste.

Patil was speaking during the inauguration of various projects. He said, “Because of the large-scale leakage in the water distribution system, the equal water supply scheme will be implemented. As a part of this project, construction of 85 water tanks has been proposed and the work of 60 tanks has been completed. Under the JICA project, 11 STPs will be built and the treated water will be supplied to industries and water being used by industries will be supplied to the city. Discussions have been held with Chakan MIDC officials and talks are underway with Ranjangaon MIDC officials. Patil clarified that from now on, industries will be supplied recycled water instead of water from the dams.
