A woman in Viman Nagar looted by a Fraud Cop

A man looted gold ornament from a woman by posing himself as a policeman. The incident took place on August 5, 2018.

A 60-year-old woman, a resident of Craft Society, Shree Krishna Chowk in Viman Nagar of Pune lost her mangalsutra worth Rs 30, 000 and realized has been swindled by a fraudulent cop. The victim is identified as Adilaxmi Baisani, who is a housewife and is a resident of Viman Nagar.

Reportedly, Adilaxmi was walking from Viman Nagar corner square towards Sri Krishna square. One of the accused came and asked Adilaxmi that a policeman is calling her and took her aside near Sambar Hotel. Another accused fraudulently introduced himself as a cop.

He asked both of them to remove their ornaments they were wearing and put it in their bags they were carrying. He gave the reason that the snatching of the ornaments have increased and so you are advised not to wear ornaments in public. First accused gave his chain and the fraud cop put it in his bag and handed over to him which won the trust of Adilaxmi.

When she was asked whether she is wearing any ornament, she nodded and gave her mangalsutra to the fraud cop who later using hand tricks, replaced mangalsutra with stones and handed over the bag to Adilaxmi. It was too late when she realized that she had been conned and the cop was fake.

She soon rushed to the Airport police station to lodge a complaint against the frauds. The accused have not been identified and arrested as of yet. But she has given a descriptions of the appearance of the men who looted her.

According to the description given by Adilaxmi, one of the accused was 5.5 ft, skinny and he was wearing a half sleeved shirt of grey colour and pant. She also told that the accused was around 25-27 years of age.

While talking to NPNEWS24, Assistance Police Inspector, M.R. Khokle said, “the man who was claiming himself as a police to fraud the woman was not even in police uniform. I, on behalf of the department would appeal to the citizen that please do not trust these kind of cons, any officials will never tell you to hand over your valuables. If you come to know of such frauds take action and call for help.”

He also suggested,  “Do not admit that you are wearing gold that’s the why your valuables and you will stay away from harm.”
