Weird ! Oath Administered to Students At School on Valentine’s Day – ‘I Won’t Do Love Marriage’

New Delhi: A strange incident has came in light from a school in Amravati, Maharashtra. Here on Valentine’s Day, the teachers have sworn the girls not to do love marriage. On Thursday, while taking the oath of ‘Strong and Healthy India’, the girls of Mahila Kala Commerce College were heard saying, ‘I take an oath that I have full faith in my parents. Looking at the events around me, I take an oath that I will not fall in love and will not do love marriage. Also I will not marry a boy who asks for dowry. ‘

The girls further swore, ‘If my parents marry me with someone who demands dowry due to social constraints and after that when I become a mother, I will not demand dowry for my children. I will not give dowry for my daughter either. I am taking this oath for a strong and healthy India.’ The school teachers organized a discussion on the topic ‘Challenges before the youth’. During this period, 40 out of 100 girls participating in the NSS took this oath.

The principal of the school, Rajendra Hawde, said that the idea of such an oath came to curb crime against women. This will make the girls focus on their studies and think about their marriage later. The principal said, ‘No one is against love but the youth have to understand the difference between love and sexual attraction. The parents send their children to read and the girls run away with someone. Therefore, it is our duty to make girls aware of their responsibilities and their careers.

Political science professor Pradeep Dande said, ‘I asked the girls why they are attracted to love marriage? Why do girls leave the house for love marriage? Do they not believe in their parents?’ The idea of making such an oath to girls came up in my mind during the discussion. The professor pointed out that swearing was not mandatory. We did not impose this on anyone. The girls swore with their consent.
