Water storage in Maharashtra dams at 61 per cent

NPnews24 online , Pune : The water level in the dams in Maharashtra has increased due to abundant rainfall in the State in July and August.
The dams in Konkan and western Maharashtra have been completely filled, while the dams in northern Maharashtra have been filled to a satisfactory level. Koyna, Ujani and Jayakwadi dams are 100 per cent full.
However, the situation in Marathwada and Vidarbha dams is still worrisome due to lack of rains and adequate water supply. On Monday, all 3267 big and medium and small dams in the State had 874.64 TMC of water (61 per cent) stored.
On the same date last year, about 58 per cent of water was available in all the dams in the State.
This year, the Amravati region in Vidarbha has recorded the lowest water storage of 28 per cent in its dams in the Statw.
In Marathwada, the water storage in dams is at 31 per cent and Nagpur region of Vidarbha has recorded 39 per cent of water in the dams.
Water resources in the Pune region of western Maharashtra are 85 per cent, while Nashik region in North Maharashtra has 60 per cent water storage in dams and Konkan region has recorded 86 per cent of water storage in dams, according to a report by the State Water Resources Department.
Dams in Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur districts have received heavy rainfall. More than half of the total water reservoirs in the State are located in western Maharashtra. Overall, the dams in the State have recorded 3 per cent more water than last year.
Last year, the water storage in the Amravati region was 43 per cent, in Aurangabad division was 18 per cent, Nagpur was 40 per cent, Pune region was 80 per cent, Nashik was 56 per cent and in Konkan region was 90 per cent.
