Visually challenged teen pins down molester, gets him arrested

MUMBAI: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Where we still fear talking about our molestation experiences in public, a visually challenged girl showed courage to fight against it.  An incident came in light after Government Railway Police (GRP) deployed at Dadar station on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man for trying to molest a visually-challenged minor.

Around 8:15pm, 15-year-old girl along with her 56-year-old father boarded the compartment for the differently-abled people while she was on her way home from Kalyan to Dadar. In the same train, the man, identified as Vishal Baliram Singh boarded. Singh also took the compartment for the differently-abled and went and stood behind the girl.

GRP Senior inspector, Prasad Pandhare explained that the 24-year old, Vishal Baliram Singh who then began touching the girl did not expect the 15-year old to come up with a reaction she did. The young girl did not panic and instantly told her father and caught hold of Singh’s hand and twisted it in such a manner that it had the man scream out in pain which automatically drew the attention of the other passengers.

Once the train reached Matunga station the girl’s father called GRP officers patrolling the platform and handed Singh over. Dadar GRP officers arrested Singh for molestation, travelling in the handicap compartment illegally and for travelling without a ticket. “Until the train reached the next station, Matunga, the girl held Singh who was much taller than she is in a tight grip,” said Pandhare.

Singh, is a computer maintenance technician at a private firm and resident of Mulund.

The girls quoted, “We are always an easy target for creeps like Singh. Our school teaches us self-defence and karate as part of our curriculum, so we can face the world despite our disability. I want the man to suffer, to ensure he does not repeat the act with any other ‘easy target’.”
