Six medicines for blood pressure and diabetes may be made available for free by Pune Municipal Corporation

PUNE : NpNews24 Online  – Pune PMC News | It has come to light that due to changing lifestyle and the coronavirus pandemic, many youths have developed lifestyle diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes. Against this background, the Pune Municipal Corporation is going to make generic medicines of these diseases available for free and a proposal has been submitted by PMC’s health department to the standing committee. The PMC’s Health Department implements many schemes and as a part of Shahari Garib Yojana, treatments are also offered on many ailments. Puneites are benefitted by these schemes. However, the number of people suffering from non-communicable diseases like blood pressure and diabetes is increasing and sometimes, 3-4 patients are found in a family. Some patients have diabetes because of hereditary reasons. They have to spend a lot of money on medicines.

 

In some states, medicines for such non-communicable diseases are given for free. Against this background, the PMC has decided to distribute free medicines for blood pressure and diabetes. Funds of ₹45 lakh have been made available from National Urban Health Mission and the civic body is going to make financial provision for this scheme.

 

Assistant Health Officer of PMC Dr Sanjiv Vavre said that the PMC will make medicines for blood pressure and diabetes available in civic hospitals. There will be six types of medicines for blood pressure and diabetes and a proposal has been sent to the standing committee for its approval.
