Pune University plans street play to raise vaccine awareness 

Students of Savitribai Phule Pune University popularly known as Pune University are all set to create awareness among citizens about vaccination. To achieve the desired impact they will be using the traditional but effective way that is Street Play.

Recently, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Higher and Technical Department, Pune Municipal Corporation, and Pune Police Commissionerate in coordination with Savitribai Phule Pune University’s National Service Scheme and Students Development Board organized Covid-19 vaccination support and Awareness street Play drive. Member of Parliament, (MP) Girish Bapat was present on the the occasion of the launch of the drive.

While addressing students, Bapat said, “Many have lost their lives due to Corona Pandemic. Many are afraid of various things especially vaccines. These NSS students should help citizen to overcome their fear and get vaccines on time.”

PMC commissioner Vikram Kumar told that there are 220 vaccination centers in the city and vaccines have been administered to over 17 lakh citizens. There is rush at various vaccination centers and these volunteers will definitely will help to manage the increasing rush at the vaccination centers in the city.”

Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor of SPPU also lauded the work of NSS students. Rajesh Pande, Management Council Member of SPPU also shared different efforts taken by the NSS students during the pandemic.

On the occasion, NS Umrani, Pro-Vice-Chancellor,  SPPU, Prafull Pawar, Registrar, SPPU,Nitish Ghatte, Assistant Police Commissioner, Sanjay Chakane, Prasenjit Phadanvis, Vilas Ugale all three management council members, Bageshri Manthalkar, Senate member, SPPU, Prabhakar Desai, NSS, Santosh Parchure, Director, Students Development Board were present.

Around 150 volunteers were also vaccinated on the occasion.
