Pune News: Auto unions in Pune call for strike on October 25; 50 to 60,000 auto drivers to take part in the strike
PUNE: NpNews24 Online – Pune News | The Bharatiya Gig Kamgar Manch Rickshawchalak Sanghatana has issued a call for strike on October 25 to protest against the exploitation of gig workers by Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, Porter, Urban etc and to highlight the problems faced by auto drivers. In Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, cab, auto drivers and delivery personnel working for mobile apps like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, Porter, Urban are going to observe a strike. Dr Keshav Kshirsagar said at a press conference on Thursday that 8 to 10 auto unions are going to take part in the strike. (Pune News)
The strike has been supported by Baghtoy Rickshawwala Sanghatana Maharashtra State, Maharashtra Vahtuk Sena-Pune (Shiv Sena), Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sanghatana Pune, Shivneri Rickshaw Sanghatana, Cab Sanghatana, Sarthi Vahtuk Aghadi, The Delivery Boyz, Cab Chalak Adhar Foundation. Hence, many auto, taxi drivers and delivery boys are going to take part in the strike.
Dr Keshav Kshirsagar said, “50 to 60,000 auto drivers are going to participate in the strike. A discussion should be held with rickshaw drivers and other workers about their problems after carrying out a cleanliness drive at the statues of important persons. The government should provide justice to rickshaw drivers and workers. Earlier also, rickshaw drivers had issued a call for strike. Now, an intense agitation would be launched.”
