Pune: Pune Dams Water Storage | The Mulshi Dam area has witnessed intense rainfall over the past three days, bringing much-needed relief to the region. The heavy downpours have resulted in a rapid increase in the water storage levels of Mulshi Dam, which was previously facing a severe water scarcity issue. The region has recorded an impressive 350 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours at Tamhini, adding to the water reservoir.
At the end of June, the water storage in Mulshi Dam was merely 5 percent, raising concerns among the farmers and local communities. However, the recent heavy rains have significantly improved the situation, boosting the water storage capacity to nearly 40 percent, providing hope for agricultural activities and water availability in the coming days.
The rain intensity has been particularly high in areas like Davdi, Tamhini, Pimpri, Ambwane, Kumbheri, Pomgaon, Nandivali, Shedani, Mulshi, and Davane. As a result, numerous streams, drains, and waterfalls have come to life, leading to an accumulation of water in the dam and contributing to the rising water levels.
Farmers in the region are elated with the heavy rains, as this will ensure ample water supply for paddy cultivation and other agricultural practices. The boost in water storage comes as a sigh of relief for the farming community, who had been grappling with water scarcity during the initial months of this year.
The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours in the Mulshi dam area has been impressive, with Tamhini registering 350 mm, Davadi 320 mm, Ambwane 280 mm, Shirgaon 230 mm, Mulshi 85 mm, and Male 82 mm. These numbers, combined with the cumulative rainfall for the season, indicate the positive impact of the recent monsoon showers.
The increase in water storage levels is expected to benefit not only the agricultural sector but also other essential activities that rely on a steady water supply. The heavy rains have rejuvenated the region, turning dry and parched landscapes into lush greenery, and bringing a much-needed respite from the scorching heat.
