Pune News | Pune Streets Filled with Potholes: Punekars Can Now Complain to PMC Directly on This Number

Pune: Pune News | As the monsoon season sets in, the city of Pune is grappling with the perennial issue of potholes, even before heavy rains have hit the region. Residents have voiced their concerns, and the matter has drawn attention in the legislative corridors. In response, the Pune Municipal Commissioner has taken some measures to address the problem and ensure swift action.

Despite the fact that heavy rains have not yet been experienced, potholes have started to emerge on major roads and internal lanes, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians alike. To tackle this issue proactively, the Municipal Commissioner has released dedicated contact numbers for citizens to report information about potholes, along with tree-falling incidents. Additionally, a special Road Maintenance Van (RMV) has been allocated to each field office, fully equipped to carry out pothole repairs on the spot.

The RMV is staffed with junior engineers and employees who have been supplied with essential materials such as blocks, gravel, cement, asphalt, and sand to effectively fill the potholes. As per the instructions of the Municipal Corporation, the team is mandated to respond immediately to any complaints received.

Citizens can now report potholes in their areas by calling the designated mobile number 9049271003 or sending photos and addresses of the affected spots through WhatsApp. The road department personnel will diligently register and take note of the complaints, and the concerned junior engineer will promptly inform the road repair team. This swift response mechanism by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) aims to ensure timely action on the reported potholes.

In addition to the pothole situation, the ongoing work of the Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATMS) under the Smart City project has added to the challenges. Approximately 125 traffic signals have been replaced as part of this initiative. However, during the installation process, trenches were dug to lay electricity and internet cables required for the signals, leading to broken patches in cement concrete roads. With the advent of the monsoon, these “patches” have become waterlogged, slowing down traffic and causing accidents as vehicles encounter these uneven stretches.
