SS Cell of Pune police crime branch raids gambling den in Swargate area; gambling was taking place in hired autorickshaw
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | The Social Security Cell (SSC) of the Pune police crime branch raided a gambling den being operated under a tree opposite a police station in the limits of Swargate police station and took action against 12 people. The police have seized goods worth Rs 1 lakh 41 thousand. Because of the ongoing raids by the SSC, the gambling den operators had hired an autorickshaw and were indulging in gambling. (Pune Crime)
The SSC came to know that gambling was taking place in an autorickshaw of Santosh Sathe near a tree adjacent to Navnath Hotel opposite the petrol pump at Market Yard. Accordingly, the police raided the place on Thursday afternoon and took action against 12 people. Five people managed to escape.
The owner of the gambling den, Sabiksh alias Shabbir alias Shahu Mohammad Shaikh is a criminal on police record and he was running many illegal businesses in Swargate area despite of many cases registered against him.
Because of the continuous raids by SSC on gambling dens, the operators have now started using autorickshaws for gambling activities. An auto is hired for Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 and gambling takes place in the vehicle. Passers-by don’t even know what is happening. The police took action on the basis of chits found near the auto and seized the auto.
A case has been filed against the owner of the gambling den Sabiksh alias Shabbir alias Shahu Mohammad Shaikh, a resident of Gultekdi and rickshaw owner Santosh Sathe, a resident of Gultekdi apart from those who managed to escape.
Three mobiles, an auto and cash totalling Rs 1 lakh and 41 thousand have been seized.
The action was taken by a team of police officials including senior PI Rajesh Puranik, PSI Pandharkar, constable Mohite, Rane, police naik Mane, Jamdade, Pathan and Kamble under the guidance of CP Amitabh Gupta, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale and DCP Srinivas Ghatge.
