36 accused held, lethal weapons seized in combing operation in Pune

Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | The Pune police conducted a combing operation in the city on the eve of Maharashtra Day and arrested 36 accused. In all, 12 sickles, four swords, knives, etc were seized. (Pune Crime)

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitabh Gupta issued orders of preventive detention. The Crime Branch of Pune Police and officers and personnel under the police stations formed teams and launched the combing operation on Saturday from 9 pm to 2 am. Over 3,100 suspects were examined, of them 714 were found to be criminals. The Crime Branch Unit 5 arrested wanted criminal Santosh Rathod and handed him over to the police station concerned.

Anti-Dacoity and Anti-Theft Squad held Suryakant alias Pandit Dashrath Kamble (26), a resident of Dattawadi. The Anti-Narcotic Squad raided an illegal hookah parlour in Chatuhshrungi area and seized hookah flavours, hookah pots and other goods worth Rs 29,000. Aniket Anant Desai (36) and Digvijay Sanatan Nayak (25), both residents of Aundh, were arrested.

Various police stations from the city arrested nine accused in 13 illicit liquor sale cases. 72-litre country liquor worth Rs 5,900, ingredients to make liquor amounting to Rs 6,760, Rs 230 cash, 260-litre toddy valued at Rs 3,900, beer bottles worth Rs 6,765 were seized by the police. In all, 104 people were detained. The Crime Branch acted against five externed goons while police stations took action against four externed criminals.

Over 376 hotels/lodges were checked. In all, 609 suspect commuters were examined and 18 of them were penalised.

The Traffic Branch inspected 398 suspect vehicles. Action was taken against 55 vehicles, including 14 two-wheelers, 22 three-wheelers and 19 four-wheelers.

This operation was carried out by orders issued by CP Amitabh Gupta and under the guidance of Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Rajendra Dahale, Addl CP Namdev Chavan, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Shrinivas Ghadge, DCP Priyanka Nanaware, DCP Sagar Patil, DCP Purnima Gaikwad, DCP Rohidas Pawar, DCP Namrata Patil and DCP Rahul Shrirame.

The Crime Branch, the police officers and personnel of the police stations jointly participated in the combing operation.
