“When State Forest Minister himself is absent for a long time, what kind of development can we expect in that department?,” Gaonkar said after tendering his resignation as Chairman of Goa State Forest Development Corporation (GSFDC).

He said that he is unhappy with the functioning of the current Parrikar-led government.

“I had supported Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Minister because I was impressed with his style of functioning. But now I find that the current government has done injustice to my people,” said Gaonkar, who was amongst the group of six legislators headed by Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai, to show unity in front of BJP Central Observers recently.

Three-member-team of BJP was in Goa to access the political situation in the State due to the absence of Parrikar.

Gaonkar castigated the BJP-led government for failing to find a solution for the issues like the ban on the mining industry which has severely affected thousands of his voters.

When asked whether he would withdraw the support to the Parrikar-led government, Gaonkar said: “any decision I would take about the government, will be taken after taking my voters into confidence.”

He said that in absence of Parrikar, entire administration has come to a standstill.
