PMC Water Supply | Thirsty Streets of Pune: Amidst Heavy Rains, Water Scarcity Haunts Peths, Citizens Demand Drinking Water

Pune: PMC Water Supply | In the wake of water supply being shut off in the city, the residents of various Peths in Pune are grappling with severe water scarcity. Despite the rainwater accumulating in front of their houses, residents are receiving limited and low-pressure water supply, leaving them frustrated and angry.

Citizens in areas like Budhwar Peth, Somwar Peth, Bhori Ali, Raviwar Peth, Shukravar Peth, Guruwar Peth, and Mangalwar Peth are facing worsening water problems day by day. The situation has become so dire that some are questioning the authorities’ promise of equitable water supply and demanding at least adequate drinking water.

Complaints to the municipal water supply department have brought little relief as the staff attributes the issue to old water pipes and suggests installing additional water motors. This has left the residents feeling helpless as they struggle to cope with mounting electricity bills due to the continuous motor usage.

One resident from Budhwar Peth shared their ordeal, stating that even after running the motor for an hour and a half, their 300-liter water tank remains unfilled. The municipality acknowledged the problem of old water lines, but a clear resolution and timeline for replacing them are yet to be provided.

A municipal corporation employee living in Shukrawar Peth is also experiencing the brunt of the water woes. The irregular water supply schedule disrupts their daily routines as water comes before or after the scheduled time. Despite lodging complaints and inspections, no concrete action has been taken to address the issue.

Anirudh Pavaskar, Head of Water Supply Department, acknowledged that the aging water channels and unknown lines contribute to the low water pressure and scarcity in these areas. Efforts are underway to find a solution, but the residents’ patience is wearing thin.
