Mumbai News : Rats gnaws patient’s eye at BMC-run hospital, Dies during treatment

Mumbai : In an incident of medical negligence, an ICU patient’s eye was allegedly nibbled by a rat. The alleged incident took place at the Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar where the patient was admitted and was on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A 24-year-old patient named Yelappa alleges that the area near his eye has been gnawed by a rat. It has also damaged his eye. This incident is said to be on Tuesday. The incident has been confirmed by the officials of Rajawadi Hospital of BMC in Ghatkopar.

On Tuesday morning, when Srinivas’s relatives saw bleeding from one of his eyes, they immediately informed the hospital administration about it. When the eye was examined, information came to the fore about the rat biting the eye. BMC Mayor Kishori Pednekar (BMC Mayor Kishori Pednekar) had ordered an investigation after this incident. Srinivas Yalappa’s eye was gnawed by a mouse around 3 am on Tuesday. On this incident, there is a lot of resentment in the minds of the relatives of the patient about the hospital administration.

When the doctors examined it, it was found that the eye had survived. The mouse had nibbled under the eyelid. There was no injury inside the eye. But yesterday, Yelappa succumbed.

The doctor had said that this incident happened on the ground floor of the hospital. Rats reach there because of some people throwing food waste. In future, the hospital will be alert about such incidents. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
