Mumbai building collapse: CM announce Rs 5 lakh compensation for deceased

NPnews24 Online Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation each to the kin of the people who died in Tuesday’s building collapse in Mumbai’s Dongri area.

The Chief Minister has also announced to give Rs 50,000 to all the injured persons. He has also stated that the Maharashtra government will pay for the medical expenses of all the injured people. The CM announced this via his official Twitter handle.

 “At least 15 families are feared to be trapped inside the 100-year-old building which collapsed in Dongri area. The building was given for re-development to a builder. These things will be looked into afterwards. Right now, our focus is on to rescue people trapped inside the rubble of the building,” Fadnavis had said earlier.
On Tuesday, a building called ‘Kesarbai’ in Mumbai’s Dongri area collapsed, killing around 14 people.
Over 40 people were believed to be still trapped under the debris. The rescue operation is still underway by the NDRF.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also shared his condolences to the families of the deceased.

”Collapse of a building in Mumbai’s Dongri is anguishing. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I hope the injured recover soon. Maharashtra Government, NDRF and local authorities are working on rescue operations and assisting those in need,” PM Modi said. The Kesarbai building that collapsed was located in Tandel Street in Mumbai’s Dongri area.
